  • About this course:
Ready to take the next step in your defensive journey? Haven Applied is designed to transition you from theory to practice in a supportive, high-trust, low-pressure environment. Whether you are fairly new to shooting or haven’t handled a firearm in years, this course provides the “how-to” of modern defensive marksmanship.

What you will learn:

In the Classroom

  • Safety First: We will review the 4 Pillars of Safety. You should know these by heart before taking this class.
  • Dry Fire Training: Working with unloaded functional firearms, we will begin working on your defensive shooting technique.
    • Trigger Press: Learning the elements of the trigger pull, finding the wall, and maintaining sight alignment through the break.
    • Reset: We will practice returning to the wall after each shot, making follow-up shots quicker and more precise.
  • Presentation: This section will be broken down into two parts to keep everyone safe on the range: Phase A and Phase B.
    • Phase A – The Draw to Ready: Learning the steps involved in drawing from a holster and progressing to the ‘Compressed Ready’ position. Focus will be on proper grip and trigger finger discipline, then building speed.
    • Phase B – The Presentation: Pushing forward from ‘Compressed Ready’ to your shooting stance. Focus will be on quickly acquiring a sight picture and getting that first shot off with good accuracy.
  • Safety Last: Range safety briefing.

On the Range

  • Round Count: There will be 75 rounds of live fire.
  • Skill Reinforcement: All drills will begin from the ‘Compressed Ready’ position.
  • Slow is Smooth: We will start with slow, deliberate fire to work on our Trigger Press and Reset techniques.
  • Smooth is Fast: We will translate those skills and proper grip into ‘Controlled Pairs’.
  • Speed vs. Precision: Drills to pick up the pace, and drills to help find the balance between speed and accuracy.
  • Proficiency Drill: Yes, there will be a test. No, we’re not telling you what it is in advance. Of course, it will be fair based on the time we’ve had to work on these skills. Showing basic proficiency on this drill will qualify you to take the most advanced course we currently offer, Haven Evolution.
