Haven Foundations

  • Course Title: Haven Foundations: Introduction to Safety & Handling
  • Format: 1 Hour Classroom – No functional firearms or live fire
  • Prerequisites: None. No prior experience or equipment required.
  • About This Course: At Haven Training Group, we believe safety starts with comfort. This one-hour classroom-only session is your “Safe Harbor”—a zero-pressure environment where you can build comfort and confidence without the stress of live fire. This is a truly foundational class designed specifically for those who have never held or shot a firearm. It is also helpful for anyone who has some experience shooting, but no formal training.

What You Will Learn:

  • The 4 Pillars of Safety: A deep dive into the rules that keep our community safe, explained without the “macho” attitude.
  • Anatomy of a Firearm: Demystify the machine. We use safe, non-firing training aids to show you exactly how revolvers and semi-automatic pistols function.
  • Safe Loading & Unloading: Hands-on practice with training tools, manipulating the slide, magazine, and cylinder. You will learn how to check if a gun is loaded and how to make it safe.
  • Proper Stance, Grip, Sight Alignment, and Trigger Finger Placement: These are the foundation of your marksmanship skills. Without these, even hitting your target can be a challenge.
  • Trigger Control: This is where the rubber meets the road. Learning to properly press the trigger so that your point of aim stays true is how you get from hitting your target to hitting it where you want to.
  • The Cooper Color Code of Awareness: This is the tool that can keep you out of a fight. Be aware of your awareness level and how it impacts your safety.
  • Situational Awareness: How to assess your surroundings, set yourself up for safety, and get in the habit of conscious analysis of every environment you are in.

The Haven Promise:

This is a judgment-free zone. We see you, we value you, we want you to be here, we want you to have a comfortable learning environment. We prioritize consent-based instruction and respect you and your personal boundaries. By the end of this class, you will have the skills and confidence to walk into a live-fire range or class knowing you belong there. While going about your life, you will have a concrete method to evaluate your surroundings and maintain the appropriate level of awareness to keep yourself and your community safe.
